As I mentioned in my last post, myself & Tizzy were part of our Riding Club Team who qualified for the Team Show Jumping Championships at the RDS.
The competition was held on Sunday August 11th in the Granville Nugent Arena in Simmonscourt.
We travelled up to Dublin on the Saturday & stabled the horses in a lovely yard in Rathmines where they were very well looked after.
Sunday morning the yard owner brought our 4 horses in on his lorry to save us the hassle of worrying about parking etc, so shortly after 10am we checked them through the vetting & got allocated our stables, where we settled them in for the day.
After having a quick look around the show I went back & got Tizzy plaited up & gave her a small feed, then went for another wander around & grabbed some food for myself too.
Eventually the time came to get tacked up, change into our competition gear and head down to Simmonscourt for the Team Parade.
Once we had all assembled in Simmonscourt it was time for the team parade, so led by their Chef d’equipe each team paraded in the order they were drawn to jump, which left us 8th to go.
Once the parade had finished it was time to walk the course & then the competition got underway. The first rider in for our team seemed to be making light work of the course, but had an unfortunate pole down at the 2nd last fence to finish in 78.50 seconds which was just over the time allowed & seen her pick up a time fault to finish on a total of 5 faults. I was next in for Benbulben and was determined not to pick up any time faults, true to form Tizzy flew around the course with over 10 seconds to spare for a clear round in 67.96 seconds. Our third rider had a lovely round well inside the time, but unfortunately had 2 poles on the ground for a total of 8 faults in 72.95 so the pressure was on our team captain, but she also unfortunately had 2 poles down to finish with 8 faults in a time of 73.15. That seen us finish the first round in 6th place with a total of 13 faults which seen us jumping 4th in the 2nd round as the teams jumped in reverse order of placing.
Our first rider certainly wasn’t going to get any time faults this time around & she moved up a gear to produce a foot perfect clear round in 70.55. Myself & Tizzy had a repeat performance of our 1st round with another clear in 68.15 to produce 1 of only 6 double clear rounds in the competition. Our 3rd rider was unlucky to have another 2 poles down for 8 faults in 71.70, while our team captain was unfortunate to have 1 fence down seeing her pick up 4 faults in 69.03. This seen Benbulben finish on a total of 17 faults after the 2 rounds which secured us 4th place.
In first place were Highland Lodge on a total of 4 faults, 2nd were Abbeylands also on 4, 3rd were Croghan Hill on 16 faults, Benbulben were 4th on 17, Greenhills 5th on 21 and Foxborough 6th on 37.
